IEEE 802.15.4

In the previous post, it is mentioned about IEEE 802.15.4 which is the basis for ZigBee. It is because it is important to explain IEEE 802.15.4 in order to understand next posts better.

IEEE 802.15.4 is for low rate wireless personal area networks (LR-WPANs) and it specifies the media access control and physical layer.

Before going through Protocol Architecture, I will give quick overview on IEEE 802.15.4. It focuses on low cost and low speed ubiquitous communication between devices. Also, offers low cost communication related to low power consumption. Communication range is around 10 meter with transfer rate of 250 kbit/s. Also, depending on resulting effect of power consumption, lower rates could be considered. It is possible to get very low manufacturing and operation costs and technological simplicity as main feature of 802.15.4 among WPAN’s. In addition, it is included to devices power management functions for example energy detection and link quality.
